"Experts generally agree that taking all opportunities to read books and other material aloud to children is the best preparation for their learning to read. The pleasures of being read to are far more likely to strengthen a child's desire to learn to read than are repetitions of sounds, alphabet drills, and deciphering uninteresting words."

"Each of us must come to care about
everyone else's children. We must recognize that the welfare of our children is
intimately linked to the welfare of all other people's children. After all,
when one of our children needs life-saving surgery, some else's child will
perform it. If one of our children is harmed by violence, someone else's child
will be responsible for the violent act. The good life for our own children can
be secured only if a good secured for all other people's children."

“When I was 5 years old, my mother always
told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked
me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I
didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.”

Zeina,
ReplyDeleteI love your first post by Janet Gonzalez-Mena! It described my day on Thursday perfectly! I had many activities planned for that day but didn't get one of them completed. During our entrance activity, a group of children started building a pattern with multi-link cubes. I made the comment "I wonder how far it would go." and walked away. Well, with the exception of a break for snack, the entire class decided to find out the answer to that question. Turns out we have enough cubes to go all the way down the hall and around the corner! Students were so engaged working and making plans together. Discussions relating to patterns and measurement were to be had and staff enjoyed the enthusiasm exhibited by the children! Honestly, our best day this week!

Sounds like lots of fun ! and sounds like you are a great teacher for knowing when to follow instead of lead. Zeina
DeleteHi Zeina, I really enjoyed reading all of your quotes! I think my favorite of them all was John Lennon's quote. I think too often many adults don't stress the importance of happiness into, and through adulthood, but moreso the importance of getting a job. I think there would be more happy adults if they were taught to pursue passion and happiness as children and adolescents. Great quotes! Jamilla
